How to Get your Home and Garage Organised

Time. There never seems to be enough of it. Or is that just us? One minute it’s Monday, and the next minute it’s already Thursday afternoon and the week has passed by in a whirlwind of work, family, cooking, DIY jobs, and (ok, we admit it), the odd bit of TV. If you seem to be fighting a constant battle against time, there’s one obvious thing you can do to help yourself, get organised. And ok, while it might not sound like the most amazing and fun-filled thing to do, believe us, once you’ve done it you’ll have freed up time so you can do more amazing and fun things! So, it’s a win win situation, right? So here’s how to get your home and garage organised so you can start getting more from your time…

•    De-clutter

If you’re being swamped in ‘stuff’ it’s time to get ruthless and de-clutter. Take stuff to the tip, Freecycle it, give it to the charity shop – whatever, just make sure you get rid of anything you don’t really need. Underneath it all you’ll probably discover a room you’d forgotten you had – probably the garage.

Your shelving system doesn’t have to look fancy or pretty, it just needs to store all of your stuff so that you can find it quick and easily when you need to. •    Dedicate some time to the job

Many of us are guilty of starting to organise our homes and garages and then getting bored or distracted half-way through. If you’re really serious about the process make sure you dedicate a solid block of time to the task. If you can’t cope with a whole day at a time or you have other commitments, break it down into three-hour slots and plan in these slots on the calendar so your whole family will know when you’re busy.

Rope in the kids, your other half, your friends – if you promise a hearty meal at the end of it or a big slice of cake, they’ll be more likely to help.
